Biorefineries and Bioproducts

Biorefineries and Bioproducts

The sub-products conversion from forest exploitation and from industrial activities and the development of alternative applications with greater value for pulp, are contemplated in Biorefineries and Bioproducts activity area.

The strategy of this area depends on the extraction of ligno-cellulosic materials before the energetic conversion and passes through the sequential valorization of biomass, conducting each fraction to different products in order to obtain a comparative evaluation. It will be also sought to act at the level of new nutraceutical and bioactive products, deconstruction technologies of biomass and new products made through sugar syrups, lignin and cellulosic materials. The activities of this area will be developed in the Pole of RAIZ, in the Creative Science Park of the University of Aveiro.
